유래1 : 처음 만나거나 집에 들어가서 가장 처음 모자를 벗는다는 것에서 유래되었다.

유래2 : 경마장이나 전투장에서 스타트 사인으로 모자를 위에서 아래로 내린 행위에서 유래되었다.

: "We’re all packed and ready to go; we can leave at the drop of a hat."   우리 짐도 다 싸고 준비 다했어. 바로 출발할 수 있어!

 

: Don't let my mother watch any of those sappy movies—she cries at the drop of a hat.

    우리 엄마한테 그런 슬픈 영화 보여주지 마. 바로 우실 거야.
