Add insult to injury 엎친데 덮친 격

To make a bad situation even worse, especially by treating someone very badly

= To further a loss with mockery or indignity; to worsen an unfavorable situation.

= Said when you feel that someone has made a bad situation worse by doing something else to upset you.

 

엎친데 덮친 격. 불난데 부채질 하는 격.

 

 

Example

: They told me I was too old for the job, and then to add insult to injury, they refused to pay my expenses!

    그들이 말하길 내가 일하기에 너무 늙었다는 거야, 근데 불난 집에 부채질하나, 내 경비도 줄 수 없다는 거 있지!

 

: To add insult to injury, after cancelling our flight, they asked us to pay extra!

    엎친데 덮친 격으로 비행기 표 취소했더니 추가 비용을 내놓으라고 한다.

 

A: "Well, it's not like you were having a great season before you broke your leg."

    뭐, 너 다리 부러지기 전에도 딱히 활약한 건 없었잖아.

B: "Thanks for adding insult to injury."    불난데 부채질 해줘서 고맙다.
