A hot potato 누구도 해결하기 꺼려하는/힘든 문제

A controversial issue or situation that is awkward or unpleasant to deal with.

= Speak of an issue (mostly current) which many people are talking about and which is usually disputed.

= A problem, situation, etc. that is difficult to deal with and causes a lot of disagreement.

= A difficult problem that nobody wants to be associated with.

 

누구도 해결하기 꺼려하는/힘든 문제, 많은 반발을 일으킬 정도로 복잡한 문제

to drop someone/somthing like a hot potato = 꺼림칙한/어려운/당황스러운 대상을 즉각 멀리하다. 

 

 

Example

A: "Do you think he can solve it?"     그가 이 문제 해결할 수 있다고 생각해?

B: "Well, not sure. It's a hot potato."     글쎄, 잘 모르겠다. 이거 골썩이는 문제잖아.

 

: Same-sex marriage has been a political hot potato so far.

     동성결혼은 여태까지 정책적으로 손대기 힘든 문제라 여겨왔습니다.

 

: As soon as he found out that his contributor was involved in a racist organization, he dropped him like a hot potato.

     그의 후원자가 인종차별 업체와 연관이 되었다는 걸 알자마자 그는 후원자를 즉각 멀리했습니다.
